Tony Lay's list of songs of
the "New" Kingston Trio

  Last revised: February 23, 2006.

Posted to the Kingston Trio Place Forum by Tony Lay (4/12/2000, 5:25 pm,) in response to the following question raised by Mark James Meli:

"Through conversing with some Forum folks, I began pondering again and a question I must put forth. What "classic" Trio songs (say, tunes that have been in their set-list since the LATE 1970's, and the "reliable" hits) did the New KT do in concerts during the early and mid-1970's? I wasn't there, and I know some of you were. I'd appreciate any input. "

I am going to try and pick my . . . brain and see if I can remember the song list from their very first (maybe best) concert. The songs won't be in order but the ones I remember are:

Hard, Ain't It Hard
Hard Travelin'
Greenback Dollar
M.T.A. / Tom Dooley
I'm On My Way Back Home
Oldest Living Son
Seasons in the Sun
The Wonderful World Of Sex
Them Poems
Cody
July, You're A Woman
Scotch and Soda
Turkey in the Straw
Cripple Creek
Grandma's Feather Bed
Howard Dickenson's Truck
Bitter Green
The Merry Minuet
Wemoweh
Ramblin' Boy *
Smoking Grape Vine *
The Mermaid (Solo by Pat Horine) *
La Bamba / Guantanamera (with Frank Sanchez bongo solo) *
Sinking of the Rueben James *
Carole *
Break My Mind *
Desert Pete *
Don't Make Promises *
Ah Woe, Ah Me *

Seems like I'm leaving one out. But this is a close enough list.

* On April 6, 2001, Tony Lay posted the following to the Kingston Trio List with these songs added.:

"When I sent you the list of the songs the NKT performed in their first, ever, concert, I drew from memory. I have since then found the song- list and I have discovered that the following songs were omitted:"
