June,1964

Hey, hootenanny -- nanny! Come and join the fun at the big beach hoedown! Any number can play (or sing), and as you can see from the photos on these four pages , it's a swinging way to have a fun-for-all this summer. The recipe for success is simple -- just grab your favorite guy, rustle up a basket of heroes, latch on to a guitar (a harmonica will do just fine, too!) and head for the surf. One note of caution: while you're in the sun country, foil a burn with a good suntan lotion. CLICK on the models below to open close-up images.

Above: The Kingston Trio (from left to right, Nick Reynolds, John Stewart, and Bob Shane) practice their newest ballad, and the girls join in. In perfect harmony (far left) is Jeanne Rainier, wearing a blouson suit. This two-piece overblouse look is really IN this year, looks specially slick with the lacquered look of the vinyl patent for pants and neckline trim. By Rose Marie Reid, Jr., it comes in sizes 7 to 15 for about $18.00. Jeanne will soon appear on TV in "My Son Goggle" with co-star Jerry Van Dyke. Next on the program: Linda Evens in a teeny weeny bikini. Ooops! Put the bandana on your head instead, and it's the nearest thing to a skinny dip. Catalina calls this "Hanky Panky," and everyone loved it so much they made a whole group of cotton prints 'specially for the sunniest side of the beach. Sizes 6 to 16, about $15.00. You can see Linda in M-G-M's "Twilight of Honor." Far right: If you want to make hay while the sun shines. Here's what to wear -- a twosome in denim and stripe with a flip little skirt and spare top. This, by Jantzen, is quick to dry and holds it's pleats by virtue of the miracle fibers in the fabric. In sizes 5 to 13, about $19.00. (Claudia Martin can be seen in UA's "For Those Who Think Young.")

Pat Rainier left: Bob Shane tunes up as Pat Rainier lends an ear. (She's in "Sex and the Single Girl" for Warners.) Pat's playing cool herself in a three-part suit of stretch denim that becomes a duet for serious swimming when the skirt is removed. Both top and paneled skirt are ticking stripes piped to match the solid denim pants. By Sea Nymph, the suit comes in sizes 30 to 38, adds up to a great buy at about $11.00. Jeannie Rainier

Right: More three-part harmony in a gay little weskit suit. While John Stewart and Bob Shane rehearse their newest version of a favorite song. Jeannie Rainier keeps the Tempo up with her own medley of knits. These three pieces, a brief bra, maillot shorts and button-up vest, are made of Helanca and Tycora to dry in a wink. By Rose Marie Reid, Jr., sizes 7 to 13, about $24.00.

Linda EvensLeft: Beach chicks with a song in their heart note: this split-level hip rider suit in cotton has bluejean stitching, makes every appearance end in applause. Linda requests, "When The Saints Come Marching In," from Kingstonians Nick and John. Suit by Maiden-form in sizes 5 to 15, about $16.00.Claudia Martin

Right: Claudia Martin plays on Nick Reynold's heartstrings with a red, white and blue note. Her one-piece suit by Cole Of California starts high with stripes, drops an octave lower to belt out at the hipline. Made of Helanca nylon and spandex knit, it comes in sizes 8 to 16. About $24.00. (Beach bags and bathing caps by Kleinert's. The Kingston Trio records for Capitol.)
