SENORA Evelyn Danzig / Jack Segal Copyright (c) 1961 Granada Music., Inc,, New York, NY All Rights Reserved SOURCE: Posted by Pete Curry on February 22, 2001 at 13:11:55: "Senora" is in the key of E--but the beauty of it is in the way it is "voiced." Dave Guard has the capo on the second fret (of a nylon string guitar), THE 6TH STRING IS TUNED DOWN FORM E TO D, and he is using chords in the first position key of D group (with exceptions as noted). As with "Scarlet Ribbons," this song has a strong "Major Sixth" feel. The chords he uses are: D6 = 1st string/2nd fret; 3rd string/2nd fret; ALL OTHERS OPEN. A7 = 2nd string/2nd fret; 4th string/2nd fret; 6th string/2nd fret (played with thumb); all others open. D7* = (Second position) 1st string/5th fret; second string/open; 3rd string/5th fret. G/Bb = 1st string/third fret; 2nd string/open; 3rd string/3rd fret. The introduction (which also serves as an interlude between verses), is built around a SECOND POSITION D7 chord (marked "D7*"), a G/Bb chord, an A7 chord, and a D6 chord, and is played more or less as follows: D7* -5-------5--------5--------5--7--5-- ------0--------0--------0-----7--5-- ---5--------5--------5-------------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- G/Bb -3-------3--------3--------3-------- ------0--------0--------0----------- ---3--------3--------3-------------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- A7 ------------------------------------- -2--------2--3--2------------------- --------0----------------------------- ------2------------------------------- ----0--------------------------------- ------------------------------------- D6 --------3--------Etc. ------0-------------- ----3---------------- --------------------- --------------------- -0------------------- D6 A7 D6 Don't you remember, Senora, when you had a love of your own? A7 D6 You had a duena, Senora, You had a kind chaperone. D7* D6 Didn't she sometimes, Senora, grant you a moment alone? Once in a garden, Seņora, didn't your love steal a kiss? Surely a moment remembered stirs in a setting like this. Surely, within such a garden, wisdom can smile upon bliss. Cruel is the curfew, Seņora, cruelly and strictly imposed. Soon Don Hernando will signal, bidding the gate to be closed. Who'd be the wiser, Seņora, if, for a moment you dozed? Don't you remember, Seņora, you had a love of your own. You had a duena, Seņora. You had a kind chaperone. I love her dearly, Seņora. Grant us a moment alone. I love her dearly, Seņora. Grant us a moment alone.
