K's input: "The Last Month Of The Year" paradox: When this album was first released in 1960, by Capitol Records, it became the first Kingston Trio album release to fall below expected sales. It is rumored that Capitol executives withdrew the album from circulation, rather than suffer the embarrassment of having their star pop-music group with a turkey on their hands. In 1992 Capitol re-released "The Last Month Of The Year" on CD along with eight other Dave Guard era recording on Special Double Play CDs. Again, "The Last Month Of The Year" did not remain in the Capitol catalog very long. In the years that followed, this album began to rise in popularity with fans, making a CD copy one of the most sought and coveted of all the re-issues; selling consistently in the $50-100 range through outlets like the ebay online auction. The most recent re-issue of "The Last Month Of The Year" (1999) comes to us from Collector's Choice Records and not Capitol. Jerry |
