The words "Something Special" have applied to every Kingston Trio album that was ever made. But here is a very, very special album -- one that has a distantly different over-all sound from its predecessors.

Oh, the familiar Kingston Trio sound and style are here all right: the boys singing, either together or in solos, and playing their own accompaniments as before. This time, however, their voices and instruments are set against larger-scaled backgrounds arranged and conducted by Jimmie Haskell, and the result (did we say?) is something special.

For further variety of interest, the orchestrations are of two types -- brass, woodwinds and strings forming the background on some of the tunes; just strings with rhythm on others -- and a richly blended chorus is added on several selections.

A word about who does what: Nick Reynolds is the soloist in Little Boy and is also featured in One More Town. Bob Shane takes the solo in She Was Too Good To Me, and John Stewart the one in Portland Town. John is featured twice more, in O Willow Wally and Strange Day.

In San Francisco a few years ago the Kingston Trio made a swift ascent to stardom during their now historic engagements at the Purple Onion and the Hungry i. Recently they made a sentimental journey back -- back to the coulorful, wonderful scenes where it all began. Here they are, recorded "live" before a standing-room-only audience at the hungry i -- the one-and-only
